Common Name: Toothache Grass

Family: Poaceae (Grass Family)

Stems: Upright, up to 4 ft tall

Leaves: 1-5 mm wide and up to 40 cm long, dark green upper surface and a paler green to glaucous underside

Inflorescence: Paired spikelets on one side of a curved axis that measures up to 6 in long

Flowers: Perennial, aromatic, clump-forming grass

Flowering Time: June - August

Habitat: Found in hydric and wet-mesic pine flatwoods, savannas, and bogs

Wetland Indicator: Facultative Wetland

Origin: Native to U.S.
