Family: Asteraceae (Aster Family)

Stems: Upright, branched or unbranched, with cobwebby hairs; up to 4 ft tall

Leaves: Deeply lobed, spiny leaves

Flowers: Yellow to reddish purple flowers surrounded by spiny bracts

Flowering Time: March - October

Habitat: Wet ditches, savannas, flatwoods, marshes

Wetland Indicator: Facultative

Origin: Native to the U.S.
