Scientific Name: Sagittaria latifolia L.

Common Name: Duck Potato, Arrowhead

Family: Alismataceae (Water-Plantain family)

Stems: Rhizomatous with tubers in autumn

Leaves:

  • Leaf bases taper to stem

  • Large, firm, lance-shaped leaves; typically 4 inches wide and up to 2 feet long

Inflorescence:  Flowers grow on stalks which are often extended one foot or more above leaves

Fruit: Fruiting heads globose to somewhat flattened measuring 1 - 2.5 cm across

Flowers: Showy white flower with 3 petals

Flowering Time: June - October

Habitat: Grows in swamps, ditches, lakes, and stream margins

Wetland Indicator: Obligate Wetland

Origin: Native to U.S.

Other Information: An emersed, herbaceous perennial plant.
