Boating Safety Classes

  • Instructor-led Classes

    The Boat and Water Safety program is conducted through the Office of Marine Patrol. The main function of this program is to promote Boat and Water Safety by providing Boater Safety Education classes throughout the three coastal Counties. These classes are free and open to the public. They are required for all persons operating boats on the waters of the State of Mississippi who were born after June 30, 1980. The classes are approved by the National Association of Boating Law Administrators. The class consists of six hours of classroom instruction on all phases of small-craft operation followed by a test of fifty questions.
  • Internet-based Classes

The state of Mississippi has contracted with a private firm to offer The Mississippi Boating Basics home-study course on the Internet at
