2004 International
Boston Seafood Show
The Department of Marine Resources Seafood Marketing
Program recently participated in the 22nd annual International Boston
Seafood Show (IBSS). Attended by more than 80 countries, this trade
exposition touches on every aspect of the nations seafood industry. The
show is the largest of its kind on the North American continent and hosts
over 750 leading industry businesses, in addition to several hundred smaller
seafood and seafood-related business concerns. Approximately 14,000
prospective seafood customers and buyers from around the world attended the
big event, which was held March 14-16, 2004.
The Marine Resources'
Mississippi Seafood Marketing display booth reached over 1,600 prospective
seafood customers during the three-day event. Visitors received copies of
the Mississippi Seafood Business Directory, Mississippi Seafood Recipe Book,
Get Hooked on Mississippi Seafood, Recipe Cards, and other Mississippi
seafood promotional items. Literature from various seafood businesses,
including J. & W. Seafood, C. F. Gollott & Son Seafood, Desporte & Sons
Seafood, Ocean Springs Seafood, Ole Biloxi Oyster & Shrimp Co., Crystal
Seas, and Quality Seafood was also distributed.
This year's co-exhibitors with the Mississippi Seafood
Marketing Program were Crystal Seas Seafood and Mississippi State
Universities Experimental Seafood Laboratory under the supervision of Dr.
Linda Andrews. Crystal Seas was very satisfied with this years event and
has decided to have a booth of their own at next years show in 2005. MSUs
Experimental Seafood Laboratory performed a taste testing survey for PHT
oysters. These Mississippi Oysters were irradiated and were a big success at
this years event. Another Mississippi exhibitor at this year's
International Boston Seafood Show was Pascagoula Ice & Freezer Co., located
in Pascagoula, MS. An annual exhibitor at the IBSS since the show first
opened twenty two years ago, its president, Mr. Warren Gautier, stated the
show is a must for his organization and recommends it to all Mississippi
Seafood Businesses.
The Mississippi Seafood Marketing Program would like to
take this opportunity to thank all those who participated and supported us
during this years International Boston Seafood Show. A special thanks to
MSUs Experimental Laboratories Dr. Linda Andrews and her team for providing
the wonderful Mississippi Gulf oysters. We would also like to express our
thanks and appreciation to Crystal Seas Seafood for their participation and
the support. In addition, we would like to recognize the support and
assistance provided to us by the Marine Resources'
Marine Fisheries Office, Jan Welker. Thank you all for making this our most
successful show to date.
The 2005 International Boston Seafood Show will be held at
the new Boston Convention Center. The convention center is newly constructed
and will be all on one level. The Mississippi Seafood Marketing Program has
already selected two booth spaces, numbers 1507 and 1509, and would like to
invite the Southern Shrimp Alliance and other Mississippi seafood businesses
to join us in a pavilion area featuring our great Mississippi shrimp and
seafood. States such as Florida, North Carolina, Louisiana, Maryland,
Alaska, and others have been doing this for several years and
have found this method to be very successful.
Seafood businesses interested in exhibiting with the
Mississippi Seafood Marketing Program at next year's 2005 International
Boston Seafood Show, or providing promotional materials for distribution
should contact Irvin Jackson, Mississippi Seafood Marketing Manager, at

Another important event coming up is the Louisiana
Foodservice Expo 2004, sponsored by the Louisiana Restaurant Association,
The Mississippi Restaurant Association, and the Alabama Restaurant
Association. This event will be held in New Orleans, July 31 through August
2, at the Morial Convention Center. The Mississippi Seafood Marketing
Program will be participating with other Gulf States in a pavilion area
featuring domestic Gulf shrimp and other domestic seafood products. I would
like to ask for your support during this event, which expects to reach more
than 16,000 prospective customers and buyers. This is a great opportunity
for first time attendees to receive a $400.00 discount on their booths and
increase their business prospects. Please call me to indicate your
participation and support, or for further details. Also, you may visit the
web-site for this event at

Please join us in promoting our wonderful Mississippi Gulf
Coast Seafood.
